ALAN FAULDS, BCAc
The Central Safe Drive Stay Alive group came together 11 years ago to address the need for an effective road safety initiative in Central Scotland.
To reduce deaths and life altering injuries to the 16-25 year old population, Alan Faulds founded and continues to steer the group, in partnership with Scotland’s Emergency Services, NHS and three local councils.
When the timeline for the project expired, Alan persuaded the individuals from each of the services, as well as the families involved to continue on a voluntary basis.
Each member of the team takes leave or unpaid leave to deliver the theatre-based show over the course of a week. A film is shown depicting a re-enactment of an actual road collision involving young people, and after the film, real life family members of affected by road traffic accidents describe how this has affected their lives.
In 2006-2008 there was an average of 11 fatalities and 104 serious injuries in the 16-25 year age group per year.
In 2015 there were zero fatalities and life altering injuries had reduced to 44.
