DAVID CAMPBELL, BCAe & LORRAINE SASS BCAe
David was a professional footballer and played in the World Cup, but now uses that expertise to help others, believing sport to be a tool for good, bringing communities together, providing healthy activity to participants, inspiring and fulfilling hundreds of thousands of individuals.
Having grown-up during the troubles in Northern Ireland, he has continually used sport as a platform to excel and boost confidences, educate and engage and ultimately create careers.
Following a career-halting injury, David and Lorraine Sass, set up David Campbell Soccer, which has for the past 21 years provided education and a sporting provision plus career pathways to several communities.
It has been used to bring fractured communities together and help disengaged teenagers.
Lorraine champions and encourages women in football, providing full time educational places for several hundred trainee female coaches. Her creation of ‘Hear the Cheer’ scheme was inspirational and came about after reading an article on deaf-children being side-lined in sport generally and particularly football.
Lorraine insisted, going forward, that all staff learn to sign.
