GWEN GRAY, BCAc
Although retired through injury 23 years ago, Gwen has devoted that time and her boundless energy in support of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) sufferers in her local region. Her driving force was seeing one of her neighbours develop MS and their inability to access services outside of the village where she lived.
Gwen vowed to raise funds, awareness and improve accessibility to treatment for MS sufferers. She grows and sells fruit and vegetables to raise funds, as well as making jams and chutneys to boost her fundraising. Gwen has now raised between £50- 60,000. Fundraising alone is not enough for Gwen, so she helps with transportation so that 14 15 sufferers can access services in neighbouring Luton and Bedford; she even financed the conversion of a vehicle to enable wheelchair users to access the same services as able-bodied.
The Chairman of Luton & Dunstable MS Society stated: “We are extremely lucky and honoured to have such a dedicated fundraiser in these challenging times, and without a shadow of a doubt Gwen Gray is one very special lady”.
