Baroness Wilcox, Jodie Vasquez, Dame Mary Perkins – BCA Patron
Jodie was just 16 years old when she was diagnosed with the rare condition of Ehlers Danos Syndrome (EDS). A debilitating disorder with astounding consequences for sufferers, but despite this, Jodie has gone on to raise £21,000 in aid of The Sick Children’s Trust, and has vowed to continue to raise money for the charity for as long as she is able.
“Despite being unwell all she wants to do is to help others”
She continues to help raise the profile of EDS and has set up her own charity on social media ‘Jodie’s Journey’. The charity has been created to help other sick children. Jodie is often cheerfully relating with other people on the social media site, who are often not as unwell as her, never disclosing the severity of her own condition.
She is particularly proud that the money she has raised enables her to sponsor a room at The Sick Children’s Trust House enabling parents to stay with their sick children.
“She is an inspiration to young people”
Jodie’s EDS has had devastating effects on her and rest of her family. It has caused Jodie to have a rare and complicated life threatening and life limiting condition which means that organ failure could happen at almost any time. Still Jodie has a broad smile and fighting attitude and determination to continue to help others.
