Nicky is an active charitable campaigner for an Animal Welfare Charity which she founded here in the UK with the intention of assisting the welfare of animals overseas.
On a trip to Borneo she was overwhelmed by the number of stray dogs left to roam the streets, so decided that she would apply to establish a humane neutering programme. After four years of positive engagement and negotiation in Borneo, the charity has now been granted the licence to control the local dog pound, and has a Memorandum of Understanding with the local government in Borneo to roll out its Humane Neutering Programme. This has already had a positive effect on the well-being of 100s of dogs.
Through her tenacious approach Nicky is effectively building relationships between the UK and Borneo, as well as with the local inhabitants who see her work
Through her charity she is able to offer local employment and also volunteer placements for vets who want to experience conditions overseas. Nicky is also about to roll-out animal-assisted therapy programmes for local children with special needs, with the support of Borneo officials. This will further embed the charity in the local community and garner more support locally for the work that it does with animals.
Nicky spent four years putting together her research-based business plan to present the case to the Borneo Government detailing the benefits for the local community from her charity’s involvement.
