Steve has devoted 28 years to volunteering, most recently as a Special Constable for the Metropolitan Police Service. Steve launched the ‘Books in Nicks’ project, which provides free books to the Metropolitan Police’s Custody suites.The projects supplies appropriate reading materials for under 18’s who find themselves in police cells for up to 24 hours without access to telephone, television or radio.
To date the project has delivered over 2,000 free books which the detainees can keep.
Steve has a sense of civic duty that has benefitted thousands of people throughout the community from various walks of life. He has motivated and helped to improve hundreds of people’s lives through the Positive Health Scheme at the Central London YMCA, which helps members of the community living with HIV and AIDS.
As a fundraiser, Steve has played a crucial role in raising £8,700 for the Not Forgotten Association, a tri-service charity providing aid for disabled and injured service and ex-service personnel.
He also raised £4,700 for the YMCA Active children bursary programme.
