Brian Linnegar, BCAv
Brian has been volunteering in the community since aged 12, when he started helping with Bushey Hertfordshire Association for Disabled People, where his mum and dad were trustees.
After passing his public first aid and nursing courses, aged just 20 he went with his parents to carry out first aid duty with Bushey and Watford PHAB club. PHAB is a club which inspires and supports children and adults with and without disabilities. Six months after joining he took over as club treasurer: 29 years later he is still being elected as treasurer every two years.
Although Brian took a full and active part in being a trustee of the organisation he also took a full part in helping run their activities and events usually as an organiser and youth worker. Brian puts into practice the belief that everyone can achieve more than they think they can if they have the right support, and Brian works hard to give this support. Brian works in the background to put in place a safe and secure environment and the resources needed to feel confident so that members can achieve what they want. He allows less abled people to make the mistakes and undertake the life lessons in a protected environment.
Brian believes that a community is stronger if they use their experience and strengths together and to this end he works to make the most of resources available. Brian has helped thousands of individuals throughout his 38 years volunteering.
