FRED HOLLAND, BCAh
Fred first started fundraising in 1960, but in 1971 formed the Wyre Forest branch of the British Diabetic Association, and has remained its chairman, fundraising for research and care to this day. In 2000 Fred was appointed to serve on the Local Council Health Care committee which was the springboard for his campaign for a dedicated diabetes Centre at Kidderminster Hospital. Through his tenacious approach a room was allocated at the hospital to house the Diabetes Centre. Instead of recognising this as success, Fred saw this as a start.
He campaigned for more space and by 2004/5 larger premises were provided. In 2006 the Diabetes Centre was allocated an entire Block at the Hospital, so Fred turned up the fundraising to make sure it had all the necessary equipment it needed. He started organising Cabaret evenings, coffee mornings and even a school’s Choir Competition.
His boundless energy and commitment coupled with his relentless determination has now seen the Hospital dedicate the centre as the Fred Holland Diabetes Centre. During Fred’s fundraising career he has raised over £2 million, and his influence has been priceless.
