JOAN BRIGLIN, BCAC
East Riding of Yorkshire
Joan (80) is a very well-respected member of the village community and has been for over 60 years, always the first to offer help, known for listening, and giving her time freely without question. She works continuously to raise money for many different charities.
Joan is actively involved in the weekly coffee morning Saturday and Thursday, always there to serve a cup of tea to the participants. She joins in the annual harvest auction raising money for All Saints Church Easington and Care-After Combat which she has done this for over 30 years.
Joan is meticulous about making sure flowers are in the church and the church is clean for weddings, christenings and funerals. She is an annual seller of the British Legion Poppy Appeal, holding fundraising events to raise money to have approximately 100 wooden crosses made for the village cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday every year. Joan also helps with Wednesday bingo at the community hall and is very active in evergreen activities.
Everyone knows her in the village, and she goes about her business helping others quietly and without looking for praise or return of favour. Joan is passionate about making the lives of people within her community better and has done so for nearly six decades.
