VALERIE GWYNNE BCAv
Since 1971, Val has been an energetic and committed volunteer with a host of local and national charities and organisations. For over 20 years she chaired the local Christian Aid group and was responsible for organising the Christian Aid Week collection, raising £10, 000 – £12,000 annually.
In 1975 she set up and ran a pre-School Playgroup, supported by the SPPA, she remained involved for 20 years and regularly undertook specialist training in areas such as speech therapy and learning support. In addition, she and her family provided voluntary respite care for special needs children which included accommodating them in the family home.
This truly community-spirited individual also carried out voluntary work with, the 31st Ayrshire Scout Group, Troon Youth Centre Committee and Troon Arthritis Group. Most recently Val’s focus has been Troon’s Fairtrade Initiative, where she was instrumental in achieving Fairtrade Town status for Troon (2010) and Fairtrade Zone status for South Ayrshire District (2017).
Val has shown boundless energy and a strong commitment to many causes within the local community in support of a range of voluntary groups, both young and old.
