Yvonne from Hitchin has volunteered at the British Schools Museum for 23 years following a 40-year successful career as a teacher. Yvonne designed and delivered an incredibly popular and successful schools education programme which attracts up to 5,000 school children each year. In addition to developing the programme, Yvonne has also recruited an army of volunteers to help deliver it, and volunteers herself for over 30 hours each week.

The Schools’ programme, developed by Yvonne, has enabled over 80,000 school children to enjoy a hands-on, interactive and fun museum experience which supports the requirements of the national curriculum.  She has been very supportive of children with special educational needs, where her empathy and patience has ensured many such pupils have had a wonderful time at the museum.

Latterly, Yvonne has devoted her efforts to a new role of Volunteer co-ordinator.  In this role she has trained and given support to dozens of volunteers, ensuring their contribution is valued and their volunteering experience is a rewarding, positive and enjoyable one.

Her commitment to education has had a profound affect for tens of thousands of young people during her 23-year volunteering career.
